Frequently Asked Questions

What kind of saltwater lure you need depends on several factors: how deep in the water you want the lure to sit, the colour of the lake, sea or ocean floor and the weather during fishing as well as your own personal preference.

However, regardless of the situation, we suggest you always have a handful of crankbait lures, classic minnow lures, spinner lures and vibe lures in your collection. Browse our range of top-quality saltwater lures for the best prices on the market.

Here is one way to make saltwater trolling lures at home:

  1. You need tube-shaped moulds (around the size you want your lures to be, brass rods, small weights (if you need your lures to be heavy), plastic eyes (if you want your lures to have eyes), casting resin, hardener and lure skirts.
  2. Make sure your mould has a hole in the centre of its bottom that fits the diameter of the brass rods.
  3. Stick the plastic eyes to the brass rod, add weights if necessary.
  4. Fit the brass rod with eyes and weights inside the mould and fit one end through the hole in the bottom.
  5. Mix casting resin with the hardener in a paper cup.
  6. Pour the mix into the mould and let it dry and harden.
  7. When it's all set, take your lure out of the mould by pushing the end of the brass rod.
  8. Create a backdraft at the end of the lure and put on the lure skirt. Another option for the skirt is to stick some faux feathers into the mould after pouring the resin-hardener mix into it.
  9. Voila, you have your own homemade lures!

Here are a few steps to help you rig saltwater lures:

  1. Hold the hook with its sharp end facing the lure's head and the curve of the hook looking downwards.
  2. Put the sharp ends of the hook through the head and the body of the lure, pointing it downwards after reaching the lure's body.
  3. Gently pull the hook all the way down and flip it around, the curve of the hook looking downwards.
  4. Push the sharp end of the hook up through the top and make sure it's all set inside the lure.

Done, now your saltwater lure is rigged and ready to use!

Even though it's always best to have saltwater-specific lures, you can use your freshwater lures in saltwater, especially the ones made of soft plastic.

First, consider the colour of the lake, sea or ocean bottom where you're going fishing, and choose the colour of the saltwater lure accordingly. Also, take into account the type of fish you want to catch and decide whether you need hard plastic saltwater lures or the ones made of soft plastic.

After taking these things into consideration, rig the saltwater lure of your choice.

When your lure hits the water, reel down the slack, and give it a few twitches from time to time (around five seconds between twitches).

  1. We advise using topwater lures such as poppers that make loud splashes whenever you move it sharply on the surface.
  2. Rig the lure of your choice and cast it out on the water.
  3. Don't forget to move the lure a little from time to time by making twitching motions.

The colour of your saltwater lure depends on the colour of the sea, lake or ocean's bottom.

  • For a muddy bottom, use dark brown or black saltwater lures.
  • For a sandy bottom, use a light tan saltwater lure.
  • For a weedy bottom, use watermelon green coloured lures.
  • Saltwater lures with a natural greenish hue are a universal option.
